Nhaka Foundation Zimbabwe Board member Bios

 




Tomaida Banda

Tomaida has 11 years experience in development work.  She is currently the Executive Director of Child Protection Society, a child rights organisation that works with communities to bring about change in the lives of vulnerable children and their families. Ms Banda also serves as the Country consultant for Firelight Foundation. In this role her work involves providing support and mentoring 26 community based organizations that receive grants from the organisation.  She is also the Deputy Chairperson of the Child Welfare Council Zimbabwe which advices the Minister of Social Services on matters relating to the welfare of children and monitors the overall situation of children in need of care. Together with the rest of the Board, Tomaida advises the management team on programs and fundraising. Tomaida Banda is a social worker by profession and holds a Master in Social Work Degree.


Gerald Tsoka

Gerald a Dentist by training provides support to orphans and vulnerable children in rural Zimbabwe. Through Prime Dental Services, Gerald gives school fees assistance, food assistance to vulnerable children and also offers postgraduate mentorship to young recently graduated dentists.  Part of his brief with the Board is to assist in developing health programs that target the vulnerable children of Zimbabwe. Gerald holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Zimbabwe.

Hugh Brent Solvason

Hugh’s’ work is focused on novel interventional treatment approaches for treatment resistant unipolar and bipolar depression. Hugh also works with children in Sub Saharan Africa through an organization he founded called One Child Africa. Primarily Hugh focuses on methods to assess well-being, and long term outcomes for these vulnerable children. Hugh works together with other board members in advising the founder on different programming issues, strategies and maintaining accountability to all our donors and funders. Hugh has a Doctorate Degree from University of Alabama School of Medicine and a PHD, Cell and Molecular Biology from Univ Alabama Birmingham among other qualifications.

Christopher Mwaturura

Chris is a Chartered Accountant by profession who runs his practice in Harare, Zimbabwe. With over 35 years experience in accounting and having held various senior management positions in blue chip companies in Zimbabwe, Chris brings in a wealth of experience. Chris has been working with Nhaka Foundation management team to institute financial policies that ensure accountability and transparency to donors and the communities served. Chris works with the Board of Directors to develop policies and systems that ensure the viability of the organization. Chris holds a Bsc Accounting degree among various other qualifications.


Ndabenhle Nkala

Ndabenhle is an Information Communication Technology specialist, with 9 years of industry experience, specializing in IP Based technologies. Ndaba is passionate about working with less privileged children and giving them an opportunity to grow and develop into responsible citizens. Together with other Board members Ndabenhle advises the management team on strategies to incorporate ICT based learning for the preschool teachers and students. Nhaka Foundation is piloting the use of computers and Internet by rural preschools in increasing quality education for orphaned children. He currently holds the position of business development Manager at Telecontract PVT LTD in Zimbabwe. Ndabenhle holds various qualifications in IT and management.


Patrick Makokoro

Patrick Makokoro has eight years experience in community based development and relief project planning with local and International Non Governmental Organisations in Zimbabwe, Africa. Patrick founded Nhaka Foundation in July 2007. Patrick is committed to ensuring that the lives of orphans and vulnerable children are transformed meaningfully. Patrick is passionate about having children whether orphaned; vulnerable or abused develop strength and resilience in knowing that they have the power to change their own circumstances or situations through sheer determination and hard work. Patrick currently sits on the Board of 2 non profits with operations in Zimbabwe and was appointed the 2011-12 Global leader for young children in Africa (GLAF) by the World Forum Foundation in May 2011.
